#DropTheTop: Why Malaysia is perfect for it

Cabriolets, convertibles, #DropTheTop. You either love them, or hate them. You either swear by them, or steer away from them like the plague. To most Malaysians, convertibles are pretentious and impractical- after all, they’re objects of luxury that only Europeans can appreciate, given their seasonal weather and a general love for the sun. Convertibles are for the Hollywood celebrities, so why would any sensible Malaysian have business in owning them under our hot sun? At the very least, that’s how mainstream media would portray them. Here’s why contrary to popular belief, Malaysia is #DropTheTop haven.

Malaysia’s Geographic Diversity

Penang and Melaka are the hotspots for domestic tourism, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic chaos that has ravaged much of the world. This comes as no surprise. Both Penang and Melaka are homes to diverse scenery- one moment you could be cruising by historic Nyonya architecture and modern cafes, and as they blur by your #DropTheTop, magical beaches and rich rainforests will start to unfold. Yes, #DropTheTop is a beautiful Tool for road trips and Tourism. It is immersing yourself in the place to its’ fullest.

Satu Malaysia culture

Malaysians are known for our casual hospitality, our friendly warmth towards people on the streets. #DropTheTop is a brilliant way to interact with communities. We experienced this one our Penang One Better Drive, a monthly community drive that we host. One fine morning we were driving through the beautiful Penang town of Balik Pulau, and waved to the locals as they were preparing their nasi lemak, ready to start the day. It was a wonderful, fleeting feeling.

Stimulate Senses

Wind in your hair. The smell of hawker stalls in town, the scent of flora and fauna after the rain. Brilliant panoramic visibility (better than any “panoramic roof” option in an SUV) with the top dropped. And depending on the #DropTheTop in question, you open yourself our to fully experiencing the orchestra of an engine and exhaust working in tandem with your foot on the pedal. Without the insular, isolated feeling of being enclosed within a small space, one doesn’t need the thrill of speed or high-performance sound systems to keep you entertained.

Reflection of your Mood

People are temperamental creatures. We aren’t perfect, we aren’t consistent, and that’s okay. A common misconception about convertibles that gets lobbed around frequently is that people think once you get a #DropTheTop, it remains dropped for the rest of eternity.

Just think of it like going for a walk in the park. Would you like to have a stroll in the breezy morning, or when it rains cats & dogs?

Owning a #DropTheTop is beautiful in its’ simplicity & versatility- you are always 10 seconds away from enjoying yourself when you see fit.

Pro tip: try dropping the top after a long day of work. You’re welcome.

We believe that cars are accessories, very big, practical, octane-fueled accessories. Convertibles do so much more to portray your character from a distance away, they carry an aura. See a black, stealthy low-slung BMW Z4? Immediate impression: “oohhh, that’s quite sexy, very sleek and cool”. See a Porsche Boxster in bright Lava Orange and open Sports Exhaust valves? “Wow, overcompensating”.

Jokes aside, #DropTheTop can be an occasion when you want it to. Dress the part, with outfits to complement the car, and you’ve got yourself one grandiose entrance.

Your friends will love it

Once you are a proud owner of a convertible, you will involuntarily take every opportunity possible to #DropTheTop. Your passion for these cars will ooze and bleed through smiles & childish excitement, and your friends will probably be skeptical at first. Then one day, they find themselves browsing through the handpicked selection of Cabriolets at Malaysia’s first Cabriolets & Coffee Concept store- aptly named, #DropTheTop Cars & Coppee.
